Is Your Digital Identity Secure? Here's How to Check Your Apple, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (former Twitter), WhatsApp and Instagram Accounts

In today’s interconnected world, our digital identities are more important than ever. We use our Apple IDs, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts to connect with friends, family, and colleagues, share our lives, and access various services. But what happens when these accounts are compromised? Hackers can gain access to your personal information, post unwanted content, or even steal your identity.

While there is no direct equivalent of the popular 'Have I Been Pwned' (https://haveibeenpwned.com) website for these platforms to check if these accounts have been compromised, there are still steps you can take to secure them and verify if they have been compromised.

Checking Your Apple ID:

  • Go to the Apple ID account page (appleid.apple.com) and sign in with your Apple ID and password.

  • Once logged in, review your account information and look for any changes you didn't make.

  • Click on the "Devices" section to see a list of devices associated with your Apple ID. If you see any unfamiliar devices, click on them and select "Remove from Account."

  • Navigate to the "Security" section and enable two-factor authentication if it's not already active.

  • If you suspect unauthorized access, change your password immediately by clicking "Change Password" in the Security section.

Checking Your WhatsApp Account:

  • Open WhatsApp on your device and navigate to the "Settings" tab. Within the settings menu, tap on "Account."

  • Select "Security" from the account settings.

  • Check for any unusual activity under the "Sessions" or "Linked Devices" section. If you notice anything suspicious, tap on "Log out from all devices."

  • Change your account password by tapping on "Change password" and follow the prompts to set a new password.

  • Enable two-step verification for added security. This can usually be found in the "Security" settings as well.

Checking Your Instagram Account:

  • Open the Instagram app on your mobile device and go to your profile by tapping on the person icon in the bottom right corner.

  • Tap on the three lines in the top right corner and select "Settings."

  • Scroll down and Tap Accounts Centre, then tap Password and security."

  • Tap Where you're logged in to view your recent login activity for accounts in this Accounts Center.

  • Here, you'll see a list of devices that have recently logged into your account. If you see any suspicious activity, tap on the three dots next to the device and select "Log Out."

  • After logging out of any unfamiliar devices, go back to the "Security" menu and select "Password." Change your password to a strong, unique one.

  • While in the "Security" section, also enable two-factor authentication.

Checking Your X (former Twitter) Account:

  • Log in to your Twitter account and click on the "More" icon in the left sidebar.

  • From the dropdown menu, select "Settings and privacy."

  • In the "Security and account access" section, click on "Security."

  • Under "Sessions," you'll see a list of devices and locations that have recently accessed your account. If you see any suspicious activity, click on "Log out of all sessions."

  • Change your password and enable two-factor authentication in the "Security" section.

Checking Your Facebook Account:

  • Log in to your Facebook account and click on the down arrow in the top right corner of the page.

  • From the dropdown menu, select "Settings & Privacy" and then click on "Settings."

  • In the left sidebar, click on "Security and Login."

  • Under the "Where You're Logged In" section, review the list of devices and locations. If you see any that you don't recognize, click on the three dots next to the device and select "Not You?"

  • Facebook will guide you through the process of securing your account, which includes changing your password.

  • While in the "Security and Login" section, enable two-factor authentication for an added layer of security.

Checking Your LinkedIn Account:

  • Log in to your LinkedIn account and click on the "Me" icon in the top left corner.

  • From the dropdown menu, select "Settings & Privacy."

  • In the left sidebar, click on "Sign in & security."

  • Under "Where you're signed in," you'll see a list of devices that have recently accessed your account. If you see any suspicious activity, click on "Sign out of all devices."

  • Change your password and enable two-factor authentication in the "Sign in & security" section.

In addition to these platform-specific steps, remember to:

  • Use strong, unique passwords for each account.

  • Regularly check your account activity and settings for any unusual changes.

  • Be cautious when clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown sources.

By following these step-by-step guides, you can take control of your digital security and protect your Apple IDs, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn Accounts from potential threats. Regularly monitoring your accounts and maintaining good security practices will help ensure that your digital life remains safe and secure.
